4(Z)-Undecenal
4 (Z)-Undecenal (Z4-11Al; (Z)-4-Undecenal) is a volatile aldehyde sex pheromone produced by female Drosophila melanogaster, acting as an agonist to activate the Drosophila olfactory receptor Or69aB and eliciting flight attraction and courtship behavior in Drosophila. 4 (Z)-Undecenal also activates human OR2W1, binding to its binding site through hydrophobic interactions and hydrogen bonds. 4 (Z)-Undecenal can be used in research related to olfactory receptors and insect pheromones.

In Vitro
4 (Z)-Undecenal (7.53 × 10-5 mol/L; 4 min) produces a concentration-response relationship in HEK-293 cells expressing OR2W1, with a fitted half-saturation X1/2 = 7.53 × 10-5 mol/L, and is best described by a real gas monolayer model (R2 = 0.99965)[2].
4 (Z)-Undecenal (1 µg/µl; 30 min-2 h) is detectable by SPME-GC-MS, with the highest relative peak area after 2 h of sampling (18%, 24%, 28%, and 41% of the total peak area, respectively)[3].
