(E)-4-(3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl) but-3-en-1-ol (DMPB) is a melanogenesis inducer. (E)-4-(3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl) but-3-en-1-ol increases the phosphorylation and activation of ERK and p38 MAPK. (E)-4-(3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl) but-3-en-1-ol increases USF1 protein levels and nuclear localization. (E)-4-(3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl) but-3-en-1-ol increases tyrosinase expression at both the protein and mRNA levels. (E)-4-(3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl) but-3-en-1-ol induces hyperpigmentation in brown guinea pigs, accompanied by increased melanin in the basal layer of the epidermis.
