PIP4K

Phosphatidylinositol 5-phosphate 4-kinase

PIP4K catalyzes the conversion of phosphatidylinositol-5-phosphate (PtdIns5P) to phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate (PtdIns(4,5)P2), thereby regulating the level of PIP3. PIP4K regulates the cell cycle progression, cell proliferation, migration and invasion, responses to oxidative stress, and affects the insulin signaling pathway. PIP4K can be sorted into 3 subtypes, PIP4K2A (mainly located in the cytoplasm and plasma membrane), PIP4K2B (mainly located in the nucleus), and PIP4K2C (mainly located in the endoplasmic reticulum system). PIP4K promotes the cell growth and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in cancer cells. PIP4K dysfunction causes insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. PIP4K can also be associated with neurodegenerative diseases[1][2].
