3-Hydroxybenzoate synthase
Definition:
EC Tree > 4 Lyases > 4.1 Carbon-carbon lyases > 4.1.3 Oxo-acid-lyases > 4.1.3.45 3-hydroxybenzoate synthase
3-Hydroxybenzoate synthase is a C-C lyase found in several bacterial species that cleaves chorismate into 3-hydroxybenzoate and pyruvate, participating in secondary-metabolite biosynthesis. The enzyme from Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris also has EC 4.1.3.40, chorismate lyase (4-hydroxybenzoate synthase) activity. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms. Structurally it is a chorismate-pyruvate lyase homolog with altered product specificity.
