3-Phytase
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.1 Acting on ester bonds > 3.1.3 Phosphoric-monoester hydrolases > 3.1.3.8 3-phytase
3-Phytase is a histidine-acid phosphatase that hydrolyses myo-inositol hexakisphosphate (phytate) at the 3-position into 1D-myo-inositol 1,2,4,5,6-pentakisphosphate and inorganic phosphate. By initiating the stepwise release of phosphate from indigestible phytate in plant-derived feed, the enzyme improves phosphorus availability for monogastric livestock and reduces manure phosphate pollution. It is distributed across Eukaryota and Bacteria and contains the RHGXRXP histidine-acid phosphatase motif.
