6-Phosphofructo-2-kinase
Definition:
EC Tree > 2 Transferases > 2.7 Transferring phosphorus-containing groups > 2.7.1 Phosphotransferases with an alcohol group as acceptor > 2.7.1.105 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase
6-Phosphofructo-2-kinase is the bifunctional regulator of glycolysis that co-purifies with fructose-2,6-bisphosphatase EC 3.1.3.46. It phosphorylates beta-D-fructose 6-phosphate on the 2-hydroxyl, releasing ADP and beta-D-fructose 2,6-bisphosphate, the most potent allosteric activator of PFK-1. It is distinct from EC 2.7.1.11. It occurs in Eukaryota and Bacteria.
