Acetate CoA-transferase
Definition:
EC Tree > 2 Transferases > 2.8 Transferring sulfur-containing groups > 2.8.3 CoA-transferases > 2.8.3.8 acetate CoA-transferase
Acetate CoA-transferase is the family-I ping-pong CoA-transferase. It forms a glutamate-CoA thioester intermediate and transfers CoA from an acyl-CoA (butanoyl/pentanoyl-CoA typical) onto acetate, releasing a fatty acid anion and acetyl-CoA; maximal with acetate as acceptor, unlike EC 2.8.3.9. Expected in Bacteria and Eukaryota.
