Definition:

EC Tree > 6 Ligases > 6.4 Forming carbon-carbon bonds > 6.4.1 Ligases that form carbon-carbon bonds (only sub-subclass identified to date) > 6.4.1.8 acetophenone carboxylase
Acetophenone carboxylase participates in anaerobic ethylbenzene degradation in Aromatoleum aromaticum; it has no activity with acetone, butanone, 4-hydroxyacetophenone or 4-aminoacetophenone: 2 ATP plus acetophenone plus hydrogencarbonate plus water plus H+ yields 2 ADP plus 2 phosphate plus 3-oxo-3-phenylpropanoate. Structurally it is a multi-subunit carboxylase.
