Horrilysin is a 56-kDa hemorrhagic zinc metalloendopeptidase from the timber rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus horridus) venom that cleaves basement membrane, hide powder and fibrinogen. It cleaves only the single bond Ala14-/-Leu in the insulin B chain, Ser12-/-Leu in the A chain, and Ile-/-Gly, Pro-/-Ala and Ser-/-Trp in melittin. In venom it damages basement membranes. It features an M12-family zinc catalytic domain.
