EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.5 Acting on carbon-nitrogen bonds, other than peptide bonds > 3.5.1 In linear amides > 3.5.1.90 adenosylcobinamide hydrolase
N-substituted formamide deformylase is a zinc-dependent hydrolase from Arthrobacter pascens. N-benzylformamide is the best substrate; the enzyme also acts much more slowly on N-butylformamide, N-allylformamide, N-[2-(cyclohex-1-enyl)ethyl]formamide and N-(1-phenylethyl)formamide, but not on amides of other acids. It hydrolyzes N-benzylformamide into formate and benzylamine. In the bacterium it degrades substituted formamides. It requires zinc.
