Adenosylcobinamide kinase is the bifunctional CobU kinase domain of the anaerobic cobalamin nucleotide-loop pathway. Using ATP or GTP (RTP), it phosphorylates adenosylcobinamide, releasing RDP and adenosylcobinamide phosphate; CobU also carries EC 2.7.7.62 guanylyltransferase activity that converts AdoCbi-P to AdoCbi-GDP. Together with CobT (EC 2.4.2.21), CobC (EC 3.1.3.73) and CobS (EC 2.7.8.26) it builds the nucleotide loop that links alpha-ribazole to AdoCbi-GDP, yielding adenosylcobalamin. The kinase activity is used mainly when Salmonella is assimilating cobinamide, while the guanylyltransferase is needed both for assimilation and de novo synthesis. Expected in Bacteria, Eukaryota and Archaea.
