Aerobactin synthase
Definition:
EC Tree > 6 Ligases > 6.3 Forming carbon-nitrogen bonds > 6.3.2 Acid—amino-acid ligases (peptide synthases) > 6.3.2.39 aerobactin synthase
Aerobactin synthase (IucB) requires Mg2+. It is the type-C NIS enzyme that joins a second N6-acetyl-N6-hydroxy-L-lysine molecule onto the free carboxyl of the citrate already linked to the first lysine, completing the dihydroxamate siderophore: ATP plus N2-citryl-N6-acetyl-N6-hydroxy-L-lysine plus a second N6-acetyl-N6-hydroxy-L-lysine yields AMP plus diphosphate plus aerobactin. Structurally it is a type-C NIS enzyme.
