Alpha-bisabolene synthase
Definition:
EC Tree > 4 Lyases > 4.2 Carbon-oxygen lyases > 4.2.3 Acting on phosphates > 4.2.3.38 alpha-bisabolene synthase
Alpha-bisabolene synthase is a cytosolic sesquiterpene cyclase requiring a divalent cation (Mg2+ or less effectively Mn2+) to neutralize the diphosphate leaving group. Although plastid-localized GDP is unlikely in vivo, the enzyme can use GDP in vitro to make (+)-(4R)-limonene (cf. EC 4.2.3.20). It cyclizes (2E,6E)-farnesyl diphosphate into (E)-alpha-bisabolene and diphosphate. Structurally it is a plant sesquiterpene cyclase.
