Alpha-copaene synthase
Definition:
EC Tree > 4 Lyases > 4.2 Carbon-oxygen lyases > 4.2.3 Acting on phosphates > 4.2.3.133 alpha-copaene synthase
Alpha-copaene synthase is a sesquiterpene cyclase isolated from Helianthus annuus (sunflower). It cyclizes (2E,6E)-farnesyl diphosphate into (-)-alpha-copaene and diphosphate, also producing beta-caryophyllene, delta-cadinene and traces of other sesquiterpenoids (see EC 4.2.3.13 and EC 4.2.3.57). It appears in viruses and cellular organisms. Structurally it is a sesquiterpene cyclase.
