Alpha-humulene synthase is a class I sesquiterpene cyclase from Zingiber zerumbet (shampoo ginger). It cyclizes (2E,6E)-farnesyl diphosphate mainly into alpha-humulene (alpha-caryophyllene) plus diphosphate, with traces of beta-caryophyllene. It is found in Eukaryota and Bacteria. Structurally it is a sesquiterpene cyclase.
