Alpha-selinene synthase
Definition:
EC Tree > 4 Lyases > 4.2 Carbon-oxygen lyases > 4.2.3 Acting on phosphates > 4.2.3.198 alpha-selinene synthase
Alpha-selinene synthase is a sesquiterpene cyclase. The Ocimum basilicum (sweet basil) enzyme also produces beta-selinene, while the Liquidambar formosana (Formosan sweet gum) enzyme also produces traces of aromadendrene. It cyclizes (2E,6E)-farnesyl diphosphate into alpha-selinene and diphosphate. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms. Structurally it is a sesquiterpene cyclase.
