Amylosucrase is a glucansucrase that transfers a D-glucosyl residue from sucrose onto a growing (1->4)-alpha-D-glucan chain, releasing D-fructose and extending the chain by one alpha-(1->4)-linked glucose unit. Like other glucansucrases it is classified by the linkage formed; this enzyme extends the glucan by an alpha-(1->4) linkage. It occurs in Bacteria and Eukaryota and catalyzes the synthesis of amylose-like alpha-glucans from sucrose.
