N-carbamoyl-D-amino-acid hydrolase is a stereospecific amidohydrolase found in viruses and cellular organisms. Together with EC 3.5.1.87, hydantoin racemase and hydantoinase it forms the hydantoinase process that converts D,L-5-monosubstituted hydantoins into optically pure D- or L-amino acids. It has strict D-stereospecificity and does not act on L-amino acids, N-formyl amino acids, or N-carbamoyl-sarcosine, -citrulline, -allantoin or -ureidopropanoate. It hydrolyzes an N-carbamoyl-D-amino acid into a D-amino acid, ammonia and CO2. In industry it produces D-amino acids. It features an amidohydrolase fold.
