Stromelysin 2 is an extracellular zinc metalloendopeptidase in peptidase family M10 (interstitial collagenase family). It digests gelatin types I, III, IV and V, fibronectin and proteoglycan; similar to stromelysin 1 but its action on collagen types III, IV and V is weak. In connective tissue it remodels the extracellular matrix. It features an M10 catalytic domain with hemopexin-like C-terminal domain.
