Atroxase
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.24 Metalloendopeptidases > 3.4.24.43 atroxase
Atrolysin E is a 25.7-kDa hemorrhagic zinc metalloendopeptidase from the western diamondback rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox) venom, in peptidase family M12, that digests basement membrane components including the triple helix of type IV collagen; this action weakens capillary walls and contributes to hemorrhage. It cleaves Asn3-/-Gln, Ser9-/-His and Ala14-/-Leu in the insulin B chain and Tyr14-/-Gln and Thr8-/-Ser in the A chain, and cleaves type IV collagen at Ala73-/-Gln in alpha1(IV) and Gly7-/-Leu in alpha2(IV). In venom it damages basement membranes. It features an M12-family zinc catalytic domain.
