Beta-1,2-mannosidase is a bacterial N-glycan/fungal-mannan-processing mannosidase characterised from multiple species, which hydrolyses terminal non-reducing D-mannose residues from beta-1,2-mannotriose and beta-1,2-mannobiose by an anomer-inverting mechanism that releases alpha-D-mannopyranose; activity on beta-1,2-mannotriose and higher oligosaccharides is higher than on beta-1,2-mannobiose, so that beta-D-mannopyranosyl-(1->2)-beta-D-mannopyranosyl-(1->2)-D-mannopyranose yields beta-D-mannopyranosyl-(1->2)-D-mannopyranose and alpha-D-mannopyranose. By trimming the beta-1,2-mannan outer chain it supports microbial degradation of fungal cell-wall mannans. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms.
