Beta-glucuronidase is a glucuronide-cleaving exoglycosidase that hydrolyses a beta-D-glucuronoside into D-glucuronate and an alcohol. By deconjugating glucuronidated xenobiotics and steroid conjugates it participates in xenobiotic and steroid metabolism in the gut and lysosomes. It is distributed across Eukaryota, Bacteria and Archaea.
