Beta-Phosphoglucomutase
Definition:
EC Tree > 5 Isomerases > 5.4 Intramolecular transferases > 5.4.2 Phosphotransferases (phosphomutases) > 5.4.2.6 beta-Phosphoglucomutase
Beta-Phosphoglucomutase requires Mg2+ and phosphorylation of an active-site aspartate; it autophosphorylates with its substrate β-D-glucose 1-phosphate. Although this autophosphorylation is slow, a single turnover suffices for activation; once phosphorylated, it generates β-D-glucose 1,6-bisphosphate, which can phosphorylate further enzyme. It interconverts β-D-glucose 1-phosphate and β-D-glucose 6-phosphate. Structurally it is an alpha-D-phosphohexomutase superfamily enzyme.
