Brachyurin
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.21 Serine endopeptidases > 3.4.21.32 brachyurin
Brachyurin is a crab digestive serine endopeptidase in family S1 from the hepatopancreas of the fiddler crab Uca pugilator; other collagen-degrading serine endopeptidases not listed separately include a second enzyme from U. pugilator, digestive enzymes from other decapod crustaceans and an enzyme from the fungus Entomophthora coronata; it hydrolyses proteins with broad peptide-bond specificity, cleaving native collagen about 75% of the length from the N-terminus, with low activity on small-molecule trypsin and chymotrypsin substrates. By digesting collagen and dietary proteins it supports crustacean hepatopancreatic digestion.
