Aliphatic nitrilase is a nitrilase found in bacteria, eukaryotes and archaea that preferentially hydrolyzes aliphatic nitriles not substrates of other nitrilases, including crotononitrile, acrylonitrile and glutaronitrile. It hydrolyzes R-CN with two waters into R-COOH and ammonia. In biocatalysis it produces aliphatic acids. It features a nitrilase fold.
