Caldesmon-phosphatase is a smooth-muscle regulatory phosphatase that dephosphorylates phosphorylated caldesmon into unphosphorylated caldesmon and inorganic phosphate; dephosphorylation activates the calmodulin- and actin-binding ability of caldesmon, thereby fine-tuning thin-filament regulation during smooth-muscle contraction. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms and belongs to the PPP family of Ser/Thr phosphatases.
