Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.17 Metallocarboxypeptidases > 3.4.17.2 carboxypeptidase B
Carboxypeptidase B is a zinc enzyme formed from procarboxypeptidase B, isolated from cattle, pig and dogfish pancreas and other sources including skin fibroblasts and adrenal medulla, in peptidase family M14; it preferentially releases a C-terminal lysine or arginine. By digesting basic C-terminal residues it completes pancreatic protein digestion and fibrinolysis. It is distributed across Eukaryota and Bacteria.
