Carboxypeptidase U

Carboxypeptidase U (TAFIa) is a plasma zinc enzyme in peptidase family M14; pro-carboxypeptidase U is activated by thrombin or plasmin during clotting to form the unstable carboxypeptidase U, whose activity resembles the more stable lysine carboxypeptidase except that it shows no preference for Lys over Arg, and it releases C-terminal Arg and Lys from a polypeptide. By removing C-terminal lysines from partially degraded fibrin it down-regulates fibrinolysis. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms.
