Caspase-11
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.22 Cysteine endopeptidases > 3.4.22.64 caspase-11
Caspase-11 is the murine inflammatory caspase, part of the family that also includes human caspase-1 (EC 3.4.22.36), caspase-4 (EC 3.4.22.57) and caspase-5 (EC 3.4.22.58) and murine caspase-12, -13 and -14. It contains a CARD in its N-terminal prodomain for procaspase activation. Like caspase-5 but unlike caspase-4, it can directly sense cytosolic lipopolysaccharide. It has a strict requirement for Asp at P1 and a preferred cleavage sequence (Ile/Leu/Val/Phe)-Gly-His-Asp-/-. In mouse cells it drives non-canonical inflammasome activation and pyroptosis. It features a CARD-p20-p10 architecture.
