Caspase-12

Definition:

EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.22 Cysteine endopeptidases > 3.4.22.B66 caspase-12
Caspase-12 is an ER-resident inflammatory caspase found in viruses and cellular organisms. It hydrolyzes acetyl-DEVD-7-amido-4-methylcoumarin and acetyl-YVAD-7-amido-4-methylcoumarin in the presence of water, and processes pro-caspase-3. It is implicated in the ER-stress response and modulation of lipopolysaccharide-driven inflammation. In cells it transduces ER stress into apoptosis and inflammasome signaling. It features a CARD-p20-p10 architecture.
