Catechol 2,3-dioxygenase
Definition:
EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.13 Acting on single donors with incorporation of molecular oxygen (oxygenases) > 1.13.11 With incorporation of two atoms of oxygen > 1.13.11.2 catechol 2,3-dioxygenase
Catechol 2,3-dioxygenase is an Fe(II)-requiring extradiol dioxygenase found in viruses and cellular organisms. It initiates the meta-cleavage pathway of catechol degradation, cleaving catechol with O2 between C2 and C3 to yield 2-hydroxymuconate-6-semialdehyde.
