Cathepsin L3
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.22 Cysteine endopeptidases > 3.4.22.B62 cathepsin L3
Cathepsin L3 is a cathepsin-L-family cysteine endopeptidase found in viruses and cellular organisms, with 70-fold preference for tosyl-Gly-Pro-Arg-7-amido-4-methylcoumarin over typical cathepsin substrates carrying hydrophobic or aliphatic residues at S2. It efficiently cleaves type I collagen across different pH and temperature conditions. In organisms it contributes to collagen turnover and tissue invasion. It features a papain-like catalytic fold with a distinctive S2 specificity.
