Cathepsin L5
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.22 Cysteine endopeptidases > 3.4.22.B61 cathepsin L5
Cathepsin L5 is a Fasciola-specific cathepsin-L-family cysteine endopeptidase. It does not exhibit substantial catalytic activity against substrates containing Pro at P2, distinguishing it from Fasciola cathepsin L1, L2 and L3. In the fluke it contributes to host hemoglobin digestion and virulence. It features a papain-like catalytic fold adapted to the parasite gut.
