EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.22 Cysteine endopeptidases > 3.4.22.B65 cathepsin P
Cathepsin P is a cysteine endopeptidase found in viruses and cellular organisms, hydrolyzing proteins with restricted preference for hydrophobic-amino-acid substrates. It efficiently cleaves -Glu-Ile-Phe-/-Val-Phe-Lys-Gln- and participates in processing of endoplasmic proteins. In cells it contributes to endoplasmic-reticulum-associated protein maturation. It features a papain-like catalytic fold.
