Cathepsin T
Definition:
EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.22 Cysteine endopeptidases > 3.4.22.24 cathepsin T
Cathepsin T is a rat cytosolic cysteine endopeptidase that degrades azocasein and denatured hemoglobin; the only native protein shown to be a substrate is tyrosine aminotransferase, EC 2.6.1.5. It interconverts the three forms of tyrosine aminotransferase, modulating its activity in liver. In the rat it contributes to cytosolic protein turnover and the regulation of amino acid metabolism. It features a thiol-dependent catalytic apparatus with narrow native-substrate specificity.
