Cellodextrin phosphorylase is a glycoside phosphorylase that catalyzes the reversible phosphorolysis of (1->4)-beta-D-glucan (cellodextrins), releasing the terminal glucose as alpha-D-glucose 1-phosphate and shortening the chain by one unit. It occurs in Bacteria and Eukaryota and participates in cellulose/cello-oligosaccharide phosphorolysis and bacterial cellodextrin metabolism.
