Chlorophyllase is the plant chlorophyll-de-greening esterase. It hydrolyzes chlorophyll a (also b and pheophytins) with water, releasing phytol and chlorophyllide; it participates in fruit ripening, leaf senescence and flowering, enhanced by ethylene/methyl jasmonate. Found in higher plants, diatoms and Chlorella. Expected in Eukaryota and Bacteria.
