Choline kinase
Definition:
EC Tree > 2 Transferases > 2.7 Transferring phosphorus-containing groups > 2.7.1 Phosphotransferases with an alcohol group as acceptor > 2.7.1.32 choline kinase
Choline kinase is the phosphatidylcholine-biosynthesis Kennedy-pathway enzyme. It phosphorylates choline on the hydroxyl, releasing ADP and phosphocholine, the precursor of CDP-choline; ethanolamine and its methyl/ethyl derivatives can also act as acceptors. Expected in Eukaryota and Bacteria.
