Chorismatase is a bacterial chorismate-hydrolase found in several species and involved in biosynthesis of macrocyclic polyketides, which hydrolyses chorismate plus water into (4R,5R)-4,5-dihydroxycyclohexa-1(6),2-diene-1-carboxylate and pyruvate. By cleaving chorismate it diverts the shikimate pathway toward specialised macrocyclic polyketide metabolites. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms.
