Chorismate synthase
Definition:
EC Tree > 4 Lyases > 4.2 Carbon-oxygen lyases > 4.2.3 Acting on phosphates > 4.2.3.5 chorismate synthase
Chorismate synthase is an FMN-dependent shikimate-pathway enzyme acting via a radical mechanism involving reduced FMN and its semiquinone (FMNH·). It eliminates phosphate from 5-O-(1-carboxyvinyl)-3-phosphoshikimate to give chorismate, the final step of the shikimate pathway and branch point for aromatic amino acids and folates. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms. Structurally it is a chorismate synthase.
