Chymotrypsin C

Definition:

EC Tree > 3 Hydrolases > 3.4 Acting on peptide bonds (peptidases) > 3.4.21 Serine endopeptidases > 3.4.21.2 chymotrypsin C
Chymotrypsin C is a pancreatic serine endopeptidase in family S1 formed from pig chymotrypsinogen C and from cattle subunit II of procarboxypeptidase A; it reacts more readily with Tos-Leu-CH2Cl than Tos-Phe-CH2Cl (unlike chymotrypsin) and preferentially cleaves Leu, Tyr, Phe, Met, Trp, Gln and Asn bonds. By digesting dietary proteins it completes pancreatic proteolysis. It appears in viruses and cellular organisms.
