Clavaminate synthase

Definition:

EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.14 Acting on paired donors, with incorporation or reduction of molecular oxygen > 1.14.11 With 2-oxoglutarate as one donor, and incorporation of one atom of oxygen into each donor > 1.14.11.21 clavaminate synthase
Clavaminate synthase is a non-heme-iron enzyme catalyzing three separate oxidative steps in clavulanate biosynthesis by Streptomyces clavuligerus: hydroxylation of deoxyamidinoproclavaminate, oxidative cyclization of proclavaminate to dihydroclavaminate, and desaturation to clavaminate. The first step is separated from the latter two by the amidinohydrolase EC 3.5.3.22. Each step consumes 2-oxoglutarate and O2, releasing succinate and CO2 (and H2O in the latter two).
