Codeine 3-O-demethylase
Definition:
EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.14 Acting on paired donors, with incorporation or reduction of molecular oxygen > 1.14.11 With 2-oxoglutarate as one donor, and incorporation of one atom of oxygen into each donor > 1.14.11.32 codeine 3-O-demethylase
Codeine 3-O-demethylase is an Fe2+-dependent 2-oxoglutarate oxygenase from poppy Papaver, catalyzing a morphine-biosynthesis step. It 3-O-demethylates codeine to morphine, releasing formaldehyde, succinate and CO2; it also (less efficiently) 3-O-demethylates thebaine to oripavine.
