Copalyl diphosphate synthase
Definition:
EC Tree > 5 Isomerases > 5.5 Intramolecular lyases > 5.5.1 Intramolecular lyases (only sub-subclass identified to date) > 5.5.1.12 copalyl diphosphate synthase
Copalyl diphosphate synthase is monofunctional in some plants (e.g. Salvia miltiorrhiza), but in others part of a bifunctional enzyme: in Selaginella moellendorffii the same bifunctional enzyme also catalyzes EC 4.2.3.131 miltiradiene synthase, and in the grand fir Abies grandis it pairs with an EC 4.2.3.19-type activity. It cyclizes geranylgeranyl diphosphate into (+)-copalyl diphosphate, the first committed step of diterpene phytoalexin/resin acid biosynthesis. Structurally it is a class-II diterpene cyclase.
