Creatine kinase
Definition:
EC Tree > 2 Transferases > 2.7 Transferring phosphorus-containing groups > 2.7.3 Phosphotransferases with a nitrogenous group as acceptor > 2.7.3.2 creatine kinase
Creatine kinase is the vertebrate muscle phosphagen-buffer enzyme. It reversibly transfers the gamma-phosphoryl between ATP and creatine, releasing ADP and phosphocreatine, replenishing ATP during bursts of muscle contraction; N-ethylglycocyamine can also act as acceptor. It occurs in viruses and cellular organisms.
