Cyclopeptine synthase
Definition:
EC Tree > 6 Ligases > 6.3 Forming carbon-nitrogen bonds > 6.3.2 Acid—amino-acid ligases (peptide synthases) > 6.3.2.40 cyclopeptine synthase
Cyclopeptine synthase is the key enzyme of benzodiazepine alkaloid biosynthesis in several fungi; it is a non-ribosomal peptide synthetase. It also accepts O-methyl-L-tyrosine, producing 4'-methoxycyclopeptine. It condenses anthranilate with L-phenylalanine, consuming two ATP and using S-adenosyl-L-methionine, releasing S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine. Structurally it is a fungal NRPS (BPS).
