Cysteamine dioxygenase
Definition:
EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.13 Acting on single donors with incorporation of molecular oxygen (oxygenases) > 1.13.11 With incorporation of two atoms of oxygen > 1.13.11.19 cysteamine dioxygenase
Cysteamine dioxygenase is a non-heme iron protein involved in taurine biosynthesis. It oxidizes cysteamine with O2 to hypotaurine; 3-aminopropanethiol (homocysteamine) and 2-mercaptoethanol can also act as substrates, but glutathione, cysteine and cysteine methyl/ethyl esters are poor substrates.
