Cysteate synthase
Definition:
EC Tree > 2 Transferases > 2.5 Transferring alkyl or aryl groups, other than methyl groups > 2.5.1 Transferring alkyl or aryl groups, other than methyl groups (only sub-subclass identified to date) > 2.5.1.76 cysteate synthase
Cysteate synthase is a pyridoxal-phosphate sulfonate-biosynthesis enzyme highly specific for O-phospho-L-serine and sulfite. It proceeds through a dehydroalanine (2-aminoacrylic acid) intermediate, releasing phosphate and forming L-cysteate. The Methanosarcina acetivorans enzyme is evolutionarily related to threonine synthase (EC 4.2.3.1) but reacts like O-phosphoserine sulfhydrylase (EC 2.5.1.65). It occurs in Archaea and Bacteria.
