D-mannitol oxidase
Definition:
EC Tree > 1 Oxidoreductases > 1.1 Acting on the CH-OH group of donors > 1.1.3 With oxygen as acceptor > 1.1.3.40 D-mannitol oxidase
D-Mannitol oxidase is an oxidoreductase found in viruses and cellular organisms. It oxidizes D-mannitol to D-mannose while reducing O2 to H2O2, and also oxidizes D-arabinitol and, less efficiently, D-glucitol (sorbitol), though L-arabinitol is a poor substrate. In the snails Helix aspersa and Arion ater it resides in a specialized tubular organelle termed the mannosome.
