Aminopyrimidine aminohydrolase is a thiamine-salvage deaminase found in eukaryotes and bacteria, formerly known as thiaminase II. Rather than degrading thiamine, it regenerates the thiamine pyrimidine from degraded products and participates in thiamine salvage. It hydrolyzes 4-amino-5-aminomethyl-2-methylpyrimidine into 4-amino-5-hydroxymethyl-2-methylpyrimidine and ammonia, and thiamine into 4-amino-5-hydroxymethyl-2-methylpyrimidine and 5-(2-hydroxyethyl)-4-methylthiazole. In microbes it salvages thiamine. It features a deaminase fold.
